In collaboration with the Anguilla Tourist Board, the Anguilla Sailing Association is proud to announce the tenth Annual Anguilla Regatta – known to be one of the best in the Caribbean. The Anguilla Regatta is famous for exciting courses and testing wind conditions, usually within the 13 – 18 knot range.

Executive Summary

The boat racing tradition is deeply engrained in the historical and cultural psyche of Anguilla and its people. It has remained relevant and competitive, keeping its various interest groups committed to the cause and has evolved over time to become, albeit unofficially, Anguilla’s National Sport. However there is one aspect of the Anguilla Boat Racing experience that could benefit greatly from advances in modern communications. Once the boats have set sail, for the hours that they are out of sight, there is little or no real entertainment on the beach and enthusiast are left to wonder what is happening or to drive to various viewing points on the island to see how the boats are faring. With modern telecommunications it can now be possible to ‘follow’ the races without having to leave the beach. This proposal aims to demonstrate how it would be possible to show an entire boat race to interested persons who remain at the beach awaiting the return of the boats.

I’m wondering how long I can stay in this perfect water before my toes and fingers become so pruny that dinner at a chi-chi restaurant is out of the question. Is an hour too much? The sky is wide and the sea I’m bobbing in is a luminous aqua, brilliantly lit by streams of sunlight. Water like this is too good to pass up, so I adjust my mask, inhale a deep breath through my snorkel and decide that, worst case scenario, I'd wear my winter gloves at dinner.
